Did you know that the earlier drug use is initiated, the more likely a person is to develop drug problems later in life?

It’s never too early to start planting the seeds of prevention. In fact, the Partnership for a Drug-Free America emphasizes the preschool years as the best time to "set the stage for a drug-free life". This is when parents, caregivers, and others in the immediate environment instill and reinforce confidence, self-esteem, problem-solving skills, and healthy responses to disappointment and frustration.

It is also when young children are taught to steer clear of poisonous and harmful substances in the home, and is therefore the ideal time to lay an important foundation for understanding the dangers associated with the wider array of substances to which they will be exposed as they grow.

This site is filled with information and resources to help parents and others who care for children engage in early prevention efforts aimed at averting future drug and tobacco use. The site also includes information that addresses other issues that impact the overall health and well-being of young people, such as exercise, healthy eating, and good hygiene habits.
